H. P. Lovecraft was famous for his macabre fiction novels and stories. His work began a trend in fantasy and science fiction writing and has inspired many writers and movie directors for generations.
Early Life
Howard Philips Lovecraft was born in Providence, Rhode Island to Winfield Lovecraft and Sarah Susan Philips. His mother came from a wealthy aristocratic family while his father was a salesman. Lovecraft spent his early childhood years at home and was suffering from diseases that took a toll on his body. He earned his education at Hope High School and was unable to continue to a college education. He studied many books and would go on to publish articles on astronomy in newspaper dailies.
Personal Life
H.P Lovecraft was married got married to Sonia Green in 1924. The marriage lasted for only two years before the two went to their separate ways. Lovecraft returned to Rhode Island after separating with Sonia, and he began working on his stories.
Career
Lovecraft started as a novice journalist where he worked for the United Amateur Press Association in 1914. In 1915 he opened his magazine called The Conservative where he wrote several essays and articles. He wrote many fiction articles as well as stories. Lord Dunsany mainly influenced his early works.
In 1923, Weird Tales, a horror magazine, bought some of Lovecraft’s stories. In 1928, Lovecraft finished working on his bestseller book The Call of Cthulhu. Through his works, he introduced the world of supernatural beings to the world. His work, Cthulhu Mythos, was about an Englander that met terrifying creatures.
Some of the creatures depicted in his stories were similar to those described as extraterrestrial beings. In 1927, his book The Case of Charles Dexter Ward was published. This was followed by The Shadow of Innsmouth (1931) and .At the Mountains of Madness released in 1936.
Death
Lovecraft passed on March 15, 1937, from Cancer while still in Providence, Rhode Island.
