Frank Lloyd Wright was famously known for his involvement in popularizing organic architecture. According to the architect, structures should be designed in harmony with humanity and the surrounding. His organic work came into the limelight in 1935 when he created Fallingwater. This house has remained iconic and termed the best of all-time house design.
Early Life
Frank was born in 1867 in Wisconsin. His father was William Carry Wright and a jack of many trades. He served as a lawyer, music teacher, orator, and an itinerant minister. His mother, Lloyd Jones, was a teacher. Frank attended Madison High School, where he completed in 1885. He later joined the University of Wisconsin as a special student. The celebrated architecture left college without a degree.
Personal Life
Wright married his first love Catherine ‘Kitty’ Lee Tobin in 1889. However, Wright and Kitty parted ways later, and he went ahead to marry Miriam Noel. The second marriage did not last even a year because of Noel’s addiction to morphine. Before filing a divorce, Wright met Olga Lazovich Hinzeburg in Chicago during a performance. The two moved in together at Taliesin, and they were blessed with a daughter, Iovanna.
Career
Wright’s career launched when he started working as a draftsman for Joseph Lyman Silsbee. He used to work alongside other craftsmen. Later, Wright left the firm because of low pay and started working at Beer, Clay, and Dutton as a designer. Then, he discovered that he wasn’t ready to go solo and went back to work Joseph Lyman Silsbee at higher pay than before. The successful designed worked at the firm until he joined Adler & Sullivan, a Chicago-firm, where he served from 1888 to 1893.
Death
On April 6, 1959, Wright was operated for abdominal pains. Although he seemed to recover, he died three days later, out of complications.
