Early Life
The Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Gustav was born on July 26th, 1875 in Kesswil, Switzerland. The psychiatrist was the only child of a protestant clergyman. During his childhood, Carl was said to be a quiet, observant and a lonely child. As the only child of a clergyman, his vigilant character was acceptable as he spent most of his time watching what the elders were doing. This specific character played a vital role in establishing his successful career as a psychiatrist.
Over time, Jung’s father developed a failed feeling in the power of religion. On the other end, his mother had a mental condition. Therefore, Carl started spending time around psychiatric patients at a tender age. Jung was raised in a clergy family, and everybody expected him to pursue the profession.
As opposed to many, Jung joined the University of Basel and began reading philosophy. He also pursued areas such as paleontology, religion, archaeology, and biology before choosing to pursue medicine. In 1900, the renowned psychiatrist graduated from the University of Basel. Later on, Jung enrolled in the University of Zurich where he achieved his M.D. after two years.

Jung worked under the arms of Eugene Bleuler, a psychologist who founded what is today considered classical studies of mental illness. Later, Jung worked with Sigmund Freud although the two parted ways because of disagreements.
More afterward, Jung chose to travel around the world, studying different cultures. He went ahead to publish his findings. Jung also held professor positions at the two universities he attended. Today, his work has been used a lot in areas such as religion, literature, archaeology and pop culture.
