Early Life
Osteen was born on 5 March 1963 in a family of six children. He was brought up in Houston, Texas by his father who was also a pastor and mother.
He attended and graduated from Humble High school that is a public school located in Humble, Texas. He later enrolled at Oral Roberts University where he studied radio and televisions communications. He, however, did not graduate from college.
Instead, he headed back to Houston, founded Lakewood television program. It was through this program that he was able to broadcast his father’s televised sermons for almost two decades until the death of his father in 1999.
Personal Life
Joel married his co-pastor Victoria Osteen on 4 April 1987. They have two children, a boy and a girl. His siblings are also involved in the ministry. He has over the years avoided preaching or discussing about controversial matters such as same sex marriages, abortion and even topics that involve controversial politics.
Career
It was after his father’s death that he too began preaching. His preaching style was unique in that he memorizes his own remarks and listens to himself on tape. He focuses to preach in a simple way and mainly focuses on the goodness of God and not on the sins.
His siblings are also involved in the Ministry so is his half-brother who is based in New York city. He has also published a number of inspirational and motivational books over the years. Most of his books seek to motivate readers to seek guidance in moving forward and not being stuck in one point of their life.
